Berry Berry Kix!

Sorry for no pictures, but this was an older review before I started taking pictures.
When I first poured it in the bowl it kind of resembled like colourful Captain Crunch but in smaller ball shapes. The smell when it was dry was mellow on the berry front. The colours were also a little saturated compared to the package, but I guess that's better than having extra artificial colouring added to it. I got some milk in there and had at it expecting my gums to be cut up in the ol' Captain Crunch fashion, but was surprised to fin
d out that these "corn puffs" gave in to my bite quite easily and without the sacrifice of a receding gum line. The flavour however was kind of bland, artificial and definitely not as sugary as I was expecting. As I ate it, the remaining kix that were marinating in the milk did get better, but only slightly and it kept it's crispiness rather fairly well.

Reader's Request! Throwback Thursday - Trix!

A little late for Thursday, but nevertheless I will be doing a Throwback Thursday edition of my Super Cereal Reviews hopefully once a month or more featuring older cereals we already know of and some we hold dear to our hearts while we were growing up. This month is Trix. Textures and lasting crispiness hasn't differed compared to Finding Dory however the aromas and flavours have changed. Trix had a mellower sweet and fruity nose to it dry and after adding milk it definitely helps bring that out more. The overall flavour was more fruity, but also had a mild generic corn puffs after taste. The milk carried more of the flavours than I had expected after my cereal was done. No puzzles on this box too. It seems that there have been many job cuts from cereal production to creative design since I was a kid.

I thought I would add a second picture to really showcase how big of a bowl I had. It was about half of the box. Trix used to come in different shapes to represent the different fruits that were supposed to be featured in the cereal, but now its shape has turned into boring generic balls. I've now come to realize the Finding Dory cereal is the same colour scheme as the Trix just with two of the colours on one of the puffs and the other two colours on the other puffs - way to cut costs! Trix isn't the same as it used to be. It's still a good sugary cereal, but doesn't carry the nostalgic weight it used to for me after eating it.

Sunday 4 December 2016

This time I'm going to review something possibly more directed towards an older audience. It's Oatmeal Crisp - Dark Chocolate Cranberry Flavour!

The smell as I poured it into the bowl was much mellower than Finding Dory and you really had to get your nose in there to smell anything. After I poured the milk in the bowl the smells opened up only slightly. From my first bite I was a little disappointed. The cranberries were much firmer than I was expecting - borderline stale despite the June 2017 expiry date. Also the chocolate flavour was pretty lacklustre these chocolate clusters barely packed a punch and what chocolate flavour you would detect was quickly overwhelmed by the work you need to put in the chew this plethora of cranberries found in the cereal (I guess a positive for lots of fruit?). The rest of the cereal was pretty standard oatmeal crisp. It wasn't overly sugary and gets soft at a fairly steady rate with the sparsity of granola clusters trying to mask the reality of a dwindling bowl of sadness. Box was pretty standard for something directed towards an older audience and slightly misleading with the cranberries shown on it were much lighter and fresher looking than was was really inside.
If you have any suggestions for future reviews let me know! I'm always up for trying new and different cereal.
